NEH Summer Stipend 2012-2013
Only Faculty are eligible for this grant, fellowship, or residency.
UC Davis has been invited to submit two nominees to the National Endowment for the Humanities 2012-2013 Summer Stipends competition. NEH Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the public’s understanding of the humanities. A Summer Stipend award provides $6,000 for two consecutive, uninterrupted months of full-time research and writing to be conducted in summer 2013.
While the NEH deadline for this year’s competition is September 27, 2012, UC Davis will conduct an internal competition, as in the past, to select its two campus nominees. The deadline for the internal UC Davis proposals is July 18, 2012. Please consult the NEH Summer Stipend web page for the most recent guidelines: http://www.neh.gov/grants/research/summer-stipends.
Before submitting a proposal, keep in mind the following restrictions: An NEH Summer Stipend nominee must be a United States citizen or foreign national who has been living in the United States or its jurisdictions for at least three years prior to the application deadline. Individuals who have held a major fellowship or research grant within the last three academic years prior to the deadline are ineligible. A major fellowship or research grant is a postdoctoral research award that provides a stipend of at least $15,000. Individuals who have previously received Summer Stipends may apply to support a new stage in their projects.
Recipients may hold other research grants during the tenure of their awards but must work full-time on their projects for the two months of their grant tenure.
If you would like to submit an internal application, please email a project description (not to exceed three single-spaced pages) along with a short c.v. (not to exceed two pages) to Laine Keneller, program manager at the UC Davis Humanities Institute, at email@example.com. Once again, the internal application must be received by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 18, 2012.
Proposals will be reviewed by faculty and administrators in HArCS and DSS. Campus nominees will be notified of their selection by mid-August and will be invited to work with DHI Associate Director Molly McCarthy to refine their proposal for submission prior to the NEH deadline of September 27, 2012.
If you have any questions about the internal application process, please contact Laine Keneller at firstname.lastname@example.org or 530-754-4993. Questions about proposal content should be directed to Molly McCarthy at email@example.com or 530-754-0331.
