Distinguished Professor of History at the Graduate Center CUNY and two-time winner of the Lincoln Prize, will be speaking next Tuesday, April 11 from 4-6 pm in the Economics Blue Room (1113) SSH on “The ‘New’ History of Capitalism and Slavery.” All are invited. Oakes is the author of five books on the history of American slavery, including Freedom National: The Destruction of Slavery in the United States, 1861-1865 and The Scorpion’s Sting: Antislavery and the Coming of the Civil War.
