Introducing the website, “Japanese Interned in Siberia,” unveiling unknown modern history of Japan: http://japaneseinsiberia.ucdavis.edu.

Stalin’s secret executive order of 9898 sent 600,000 Japanese men in Manchuria to forced labor camps in Siberia in 1945. What happened to those men? Why has it taken so long to have this history be told outside of Japan? The result of fifteen years of research will be summarized with historical and cultural analysis in this presentation.

This event is sponsored by East Asian Languages & Cultures, Asian American Studies, East Asian Studies, and History
