Adrienne L. Martín retired in 2016 after an extraordinary, and extraordinarily versatile career. She transformed the study of Spain’s lyric traditions, with a series of books on erotic poetry; and she made crucial contributions to our understanding of Cervantes and early modern prose. She served as president of the Society for Renaissance and Baroque Hispanic Poetry, as well as the Cervantes Society of America. Not content to limit her contributions to prose and poetry, she founded a theater troupe, Grupo de Teatro La Poltrona, and mentored a generation of early modernists. This conference, organized by her grateful colleague’s friends, celebrates her transformative career, her service, and her generosity.
