Working with Sponsored Programs
The vast majority of grants in the humanities are awarded to faculty members and are taken as part of one’s salary. These grants do NOT need to be submitted through sponsored programs. You know you are applying for one of these when it says in the application some version of the following: “this award is for faculty members only/universities are not eligible for this award.” You also know because the award is taken as part of your income. These would be the typical awards to individual scholars that come from NEH, ACLS, Guggenheim, etc.
When grants go through Sponsored Programs, the proposal and all accompanying grant materials must be submitted through Sponsored Programs at least 5 business days before the sponsor’s deadline. Proposals should be submitted via email to proposals@ucdavis.edu.
Oftentimes, funding opportunities are part of a limited submissions process, indicating that an internal campus review is required before a proposal is chosen to move forward for submission to the sponsoring agency or foundation. For more on the limited submissions process, please visit the Limited Submissions page at the Office of Research.
