Read about the Fellowship

The Faculty Research Fellowship is the Institute’s flagship award. It is open to any ladder-rank faculty within the College of Arts and Science whose research questions are informed by qualitative, humanistic methodologies, or artistic practices. Annually, Fellowship recipients form an interdisciplinary cohort that comes together to read and engage with each other’s work. The Fellowship concludes with a public showcase open to the broader community. 

Past Fellows

Fellows from a range of arts, humanities, and humanistic social science disciplines have gone on to publish field-shaping books, direct award-winning films and exhibitions, and secure prestigious awards and grants.

I simply could not have advanced this significant research agenda this spring without the time and collegial support offered by the Fellowship . . .   • Who is eligible for the Faculty Research Fellowship?
  • Any L&S ladder-rank faculty who employs arts or humanities methodology as driving force in their research. 
  • Where and when can I apply?
  • The call for proposals will be released in October on InfoReady and applications will be due the first week of January 2027. This page will be updated with the CFP once it is published. 
  • How many Fellowships are available?
  • The DHI typically supports five fellowships a year. 
  • How are the Fellowships awarded?
  • The DHI's Faculty Advisory Board (FAB) and Faculty Director review Fellowship applications and select the awardees.  
  • When does the workshop take place?
  • The workshop takes place during spring quarter.
  • When does the showcase take place?
  • The showcase takes place at the end of spring quarter, typically right before or after Memorial Day. 
  • Who can come to the showcase?
  • Anybody who registers and gets a (free) ticket!
