Faculty Research Fellowship

Catalytic support to advance humanities and arts research.

Supporting Research. Supporting Teaching.

Nationally, 40% of instructional staff across higher education work on a part-time, limited basis. At UC Davis, only 11% do

This helps expand access to undergraduate classes taught by experts at the cutting edge of their field. I also creates an institutional challenge: how to ensure faculty can sustainably balance a full research and teaching load. This is where the Faculty Research Fellowship comes in.

Time to Focus

Time to research and write is a precious commodity among humanities and arts faculty. The Fellowship subsidizes a 10-week course release, to coincide with a critical moment in a research project's development where focus is most needed.

Creating Connections

Large research institutions can be siloed. The Fellowship intentionally brings together cohorts of faculty from different departments, creating opportunities for cross-disciplinary dialogue and new insights during a weekly work-in-progress workshop.

Engaging Community

The Fellowship concludes with a public showcase, in which fellows share insights from their work, their process, and cohort experience with faculty, students, and members of the broader Davis community.

Past Fellows

The Institute has supported XXX fellows since 2015, who have gone on to publish field-shaping books, direct award-winning films, and secure prestigious awards and grants.
