Event Date
All veterans have memories of their military service, from enlistment, boot camp and trainings, through deployments and homecomings. At the 2021 UC Student Veterans Summer Writing Workshop, student veterans from across the ten campuses of the University of California will gather online for five days to study and practice the art of storytelling. Under the guidance of instructors who have worked extensively with veterans, students will learn how to compose personal narratives about their military experiences and share their stories with others.
______
The UC Veterans Summer Writing Workshop is a five-day creative writing program for UC student veterans. The Workshop was founded six years ago in the belief that when veterans write and share stories about their military experiences, they gain valuable self-knowledge, discover new meanings in their lives, heal invisible wounds, strengthen their communication skills, and deepen their connections to the civilian world.
In the workshop, students will learn how to compose stories about their military experiences, guided by instructors who have worked extensively with veterans. Students will also have the chance to connect with other veterans from across the UC system, which we hope will be especially valuable, given the isolation from our communities we have been experiencing during the pandemic.
