Frances Stark, whose drawings, collages, videos, PowerPoint presentations, performances, and paintings have been extensively exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide, will appear in the Art Studio Visiting Artist Lecture Series on March 12. Her presentation will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art.
In 2017 Stark’s paintings were included in the Whitney Biennial and her cinematic opera, The Magic Flute, premiered at LACMA, and an earlier work was featured in the Venice Biennale. In 2015, her mid-career survey, “UH-OH: Frances Stark 1991-2015,” was exhibited at the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The author of several books, Stark was born in 1967 in Newport Beach, California. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
