Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals

Event Date

Global Affairs, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and the Office of Sustainability are pleased to announce the call for grants to promote multidisciplinary collaborations focused on one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Grants for Advancing Sustainable Development Goals facilitate faculty work on the economic, social, and environmental issues that are critical to humankind at the local, regional, national, and international levels. These challenges are complex and interlinked, and to address them requires multi-disciplinary, transdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder collaborations. UC Davis is committed to contributing to the achievement of these goals through research, teaching, and service.

The 2020-21 Call for Proposals is Now Open

The purpose of the collaborative SDGs grant program is to advance global conversations and incentivize inclusive collaborations among interdisciplinary teams of UC Davis faculty and international partners to contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. Proposals might advance the achievement of the SDGs in in different ways, including but not limited to:

  • by generating collaborations around specific or multiple SDGs focused on a particular region of the world (e.g. in Latin America, Asia, Europe, Africa, etc.) and/or a particular SDG-oriented challenge (e.g. climate change or alleviating poverty, hunger, or socioeconomic inequality);
  • by advancing partnership around SDGs with an institution abroad;
  • by exploring creatively how the SDGs provide a common language and platform for tackling challenges both locally and globally.

Grant funding supports workshops, seminars, speaker series, capacity and parternship building, or other similar events or activities taking place either on the UC Davis campus or in other venues around the world in which UC Davis is a visible lead organizer. Given the current realities of COVID-19, you are encouraged to be creative and to take advantage of remote interactions; even though travel has been temporarily curtailed, the need for global collaboration has become all the more important.

Eligibility

UC Davis Academic Senate and Academic Federation members from any UC Davis location are eligible to apply. Proposals are encouraged from diverse groups of at least three PIs, of whom two must be UC Davis faculty.

Ideally, teams will include at least one international collaborator and will represent a range of disciplines and experiences. Including undergraduate and graduate or professional students in grant activities is highly encouraged, but they may not serve as project leads.
