The 2021-22 Working Through Upheaval Affiliated Scholars Grant is an 18-month award that supports UC PhD alumni who plan to pursue academic positions in 2021-22, and who do not currently have an institutional affiliation, or who are in adjunct positions with less than 50% appointment and for less than a year. In recognition of what has been an academic job market facing layers of pressing challenges for at least the last decade, and the need for young scholars to have institutional backing, this grant offers a cohort of independent scholars institutional affiliation with a University of California-wide institute that is known for its global reach.
Eligible Applicants: UC PhD Alumni from the humanities and humanistic social sciences without institutional affiliations (or who are in adjunct positions with less than 50% appointment and for less than a year) who are pursuing academic positions in 2021-22. Applicants must have graduated within the past three years (no earlier than June 2018). Graduate students who finish their degree by June 2021, and without confirmed academic employment, are eligible to apply.
Maximum Award: $1,250; institutional affiliation with UCHRI from July 1, 2021-December 31, 2022; UC Irvine library access (where possible)
