Elizabeth “Betita” Martínez is a legendary and inspirational Chicana ansister who forged brighter futures for our Chicanx/Latinx/Indigenous peoples. Betita’s life was an arc that changed the course of social justice history in the Americas and the world. Her work shaped the Civil Rights struggles in the United States, including the Chicano/a Movement. She led vital efforts in anti-colonial and internationalist struggles. Betita is also one of the architects of Chicana feminisms and women of color feminisms, and her work influenced knowledge production in the academic fields of Ethnic Studies, Chicanx Studies and Sex/Gender Studies.

Betita also understood the indispensable contributions the artistic imagination delivers to the task of social transformation.
