Bill Smith Memorial Lecture featuring Pamela S. Karlan

Event Date

The Lambda Law Students Association at King Hall will hold the annual Bill Smith Memorial Lecture with speaker Pam Karlan.

Pam Karlan is a professor of law at Stanford Law School who was recently named principal deputy assistant attorney general in the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division. Recently, she testified at the first Trump impeachment hearing and argued in front of the Supreme Court for Bostock v. Clayton County Georgia, a landmark case on LGBTQ+ worker rights.

The Bill Smith Memorial Lecture honors the memory of Bill Smith ’98 who passed in 2001. During Bill’s short time with us, he dedicated himself to disability and LGBT rights activism. The lecture is our way of honoring his memory, both by highlighting a powerful voice in the disability or LGBT rights arena and by awarding a small summer grant to a 1L or 2L law student doing nonprofit legal work in either of those areas.
