The Concert Band, directed by Pete Nowlen, will perform music by Alton Adams, who in 1917 became the first African American U.S. Navy Bandmaster; Helen May Butler, who was a bandleader and composer between 1891 and 1911; British-Sierra-Leonean composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, who was active in the final decade of the 19th century and first decade of the 20th century; Chinese and Chinese American composers Jack Loh and Yan Pang; and Alan Silvestri, who has composed the scores for many popular films.
