Event Date
Lyric poetry has its roots in song and favors the present moment, trying to exist outside time. Narratives lure the reader towards an ending by moving through a series of events. But are they really so opposed? Poems have to end. Narratives don't only move forward on the sheer force of plot (and they don’t only move forward). This conversation brings together three contemporary poets, Jessica Laser, Margaret Ross, and Noah Warren, whose work makes equal use of music and story. They will turn their attention to these questions and their remarks will surely provoke many other questions. The poets will speak briefly at the beginning after introductory remarks by Katie Peterson. This will be followed by informal conversation, and open to audience commentary and questions.
