High quality education and outreach plans are what distinguish funded proposals from non. Join us to discover best practices and top tips.

Whether formally written or informally assumed, the expectation that researchers will disseminate the results of their work to nonspecialist audiences permeates the application guidelines of many funding agencies. Researchers at UC Davis—a public, land grant institution dedicated to promoting open-access scholarship and direct engagement with the California public—have additional expectations of research dissemination and sharing. All of this compounds in the hyper-competitive review process, such that sponsors often encourage reviewers to cut those proposals with weak or insufficient Education & Outreach (E&O) plans during early rounds of review.

Given the diverse options available for E&O activities, how do researchers and creative professionals identify the activities best suited for their knowledge, skills, and abilities? How do they ensure their E&O plan is "well integrated" with their research plan?

During this workshop, participants will explore these and related questions; by the end of the workshop, participants will leave with:

  • A worksheet for developing goals, objectives, and metrics the E&O plan
  • A tip sheet breaking down the pros and cons of working with a partner organization or program for the E&O component
  • A worksheet for creating the all-important Educational Assessment Plan
  • A sample E&O budget, with tips to consider when creating a new one
  • A list of UC Davis resources, units, and offices available to assist with E&O plans
