Op-Eds can be an effective way for academics to engage and educate an audience outside the academic world, particularly when simplifying a complicated topic. UC Davis faculty have written op-eds about the fine points of the U.S. Constitution, impeachment, wars, child welfare and even statues of civil war heroes. In this session, we will discuss what an op-ed is, what it isn’t, and potential alternatives to writing an op-ed. We will also go over the basics of the op-ed’s construction and the best ways to go about getting published.
