Universities, and the departments and people that make them up, often take political positions—whether by making or signing public statements, inviting speakers, joining lawsuits, or even picking books to read together. Some think these positions—including institutional commitments to anti-racism—are incompatible with the neutrality they see as fundamental to free speech and academic freedom. Professor Soucek will explore these debates.
