The Pacific Ocean: California’s neighbor to the west and home to societies with sophisticated artistic heritages. Despite the vast expanses involved in traversing this region, Pacific peoples have connected to each other and to the broader world for centuries. The 2023 Templeton Colloquium in Art History takes as its theme the Arts of the Pacific, with emphasis on Hawai’i and Aotearoa (New Zealand). Speaker: Stacy Kamehiro, Associate Professor in History of Art and Visual Culture, UC Santa Cruz; Kailani Polzak, Assistant Professor in History of Art and Visual Culture, UC Santa Cruz; Ngarino Ellis, Associate Professor in Art History, University of Auckland, NZ
