Location: Zoom (register here)

Through a career spanning over five decades, Jairus Banaji has produced a body of Marxist research of consistent sophistication and startling range. From influential theoretical work on Marx’s method in Capital and the notion of the “mode of production,” to painstaking studies on unions and industrial relations in India, to historical work on agrarian history, peasants and capitalism, and early Islamic trade, the rigor of Banaji’s work continues to provoke and inspire. His most recent book, A Brief History of Commercial Capitalism (2020), offers a sweeping global story of dynamic capitalist forms preceding the Industrial Revolution.

Join us for a conversation with Jairus Banaji, hosted by the UC Marxist Institute for Research (MIR), https://www.marxistinstitute.org/, and moderated by Chris Chen, Stefan Yong, and Sarika Chandra. Note, this is an online event.
